Throughout photography, I have found a new appreciation for the simple subjects we see every day. I have always enjoyed art, but I had never tried using photography as an outlet until this year. I took photography because I wanted to see if I could find a way to be creative through photos, and I've always been curious about shooting on film. Going out and taking pictures in places I would have never gone otherwise has been a fun way to find new inspiration. The pictures I took this semester are mostly landscape and wide-angle shots. I chose to take pictures of more busy subjects like lakes and forests to capture people's attention. With so many different things to look at, it's hard to get bored of my photos. Finding inspiration for each prompt was difficult at first-- when I was looking at the prompts from a textbook definition. After my first few rolls, I took pictures of how I interpreted each prompt instead of what I thought would illustrate the prompt best. This helped me use more creativity when setting up my shots and it wasn't as difficult to find subjects. Art in general is all about how you interpret it, and that's why I've always loved it. There is no "right answer" in art, so you can't really get it wrong. To me, art is all about perspective. Everyone looks at a piece of art differently, and that same piece of art can arise drastically different feelings in people. Photography is a powerful way to express feelings, and I tried to capture emotions the best I could in my photos. The work I've done this semester is an interpretation of simple life, and what we can get out of it.
